Soon the new year and the soul requires a fes­tive mood. Lit­tle by lit­tle, New Year’s toys and arti­fi­cial Christ­mas trees are tak­en from the mez­za­nines and bal­conies, as well as gifts are bought for the upcom­ing hol­i­day. But in addi­tion to the fes­tive mood and dec­o­rat­ing the Christ­mas tree, I also want to dec­o­rate the room with a gar­land, and even bet­ter with a smart RGB tape to con­trol it right from the sofa. For myself, I chose the HIPER IoT Light DL115 RGB tape, since I already have prod­ucts from this com­pa­ny and have a pos­i­tive expe­ri­ence of use.

Packaging and equipment

The HIPER IoT Light DL115 tape comes in a car­ton box. If you have pre­vi­ous­ly bought HIPER prod­ucts for a smart home, then the pack­ag­ing design will be famil­iar to you. On the front side there is an image of the rib­bon and key fea­tures are indi­cat­ed. One of the side faces indi­cates com­pat­i­bil­i­ty with voice assis­tants. The reverse side of the pack­age con­tains tech­ni­cal and trans­port infor­ma­tion, as well as a QR code for down­load­ing the tape man­age­ment appli­ca­tion on a smart­phone.

Inside the tape is in a ziplock, which is very nice. The tape itself is wound on a reel. We will get acquaint­ed with it in more detail a lit­tle lat­er. Sep­a­rate­ly, there is a pow­er sup­ply for a 220V out­let and a con­troller for con­trol­ling the HIPER IoT Light DL115.

Appearance and connection

HIPER IoT Light DL115 is an RGB strip in which the col­or of the LEDs changes simul­ta­ne­ous­ly through­out the strip, and not each LED indi­vid­u­al­ly. To fix the tape on the sur­face, 3M adhe­sive tape is pro­vid­ed on the reverse side.

On the front side, the com­po­nents of the tape are pro­tect­ed accord­ing to the IP 65 stan­dard. In the domes­tic envi­ron­ment, this pro­tec­tion stan­dard pro­vides pro­tec­tion against ingress of drops and water jets. How bright the tape can be under­stood by the num­ber of LEDs per 1 meter, in this tape there are 3 LEDs per 10 cen­time­ters, there­fore, there are 30 LEDs in one meter.

Stan­dard size RGB LED 5050, square shape and size 5x5x1.6 mm. This LED con­sists of red, green, blue col­ors, as well as white cold and warm glow. This is indi­cat­ed by the RGBWW mark­ing — Red, Green, Blue, Warm White + White.

To con­nect the tape, a cable with 6 wires is used. Con­trolled by HIPER IoT Light DL115 through a con­troller whose switch mod­ule is Wb3s.

The whole thing is pow­ered by the fol­low­ing type of charg­ing unit.

User Experience and Conclusion

I will not describe the con­nec­tion steps, every­thing is intu­itive and clear. From myself, I note that for the first launch you will need a home net­work with WI-FI 2.4 GHz and a smart­phone for down­load­ing the appli­ca­tion and set­tings.

A wide range of col­ors and the abil­i­ty to change even the shade allow you to set the col­or of your room to suit any mood. Whether it’s a roman­tic evening with soft mut­ed tones, a dis­co with bright tints, or just soft light­ing for a cozy home evening. With­out turn­ing on a large chan­de­lier, you can leave only the tape, spec­i­fy­ing the turn-off time and bold­ly bury your head in your favorite book, and then fall asleep — the smart home will turn off the tape at the spec­i­fied time. This New Year, the win­dow will be dec­o­rat­ed with a gar­land, as always, but the apart­ment will be illu­mi­nat­ed with a rib­bon, which will cre­ate an even more cozy fairy-tale atmos­phere for a lit­tle daugh­ter.
